This article is devoted to the analysis of the functional characteristics of precedent units (texts, names, situations, and phrases) in the modern media space, specifically through the case study of the French publication Le Monde. The research examines articles covering topical socio-political processes in 2024 to investigate the role of precedent units in concise information delivery, attracting audience attention, and preserving national-cultural codes. Furthermore, the study demonstrates how precedent units acquire new semantic layers in headlines through techniques of quasi-quotation and lexical transformation.
