Abstract

This article investigates the primary challenges faced by language learners in acquiring and mastering the speaking skill, often cited as the most difficult of the four fundamental language competencies. While receptive skills (listening and reading) and the productive skill of writing allow for internal processing time and the opportunity for revision, speaking demands real-time cognitive processing, encompassing simultaneous tasks such as conceptualizing the message, accessing appropriate vocabulary and grammatical structures, monitoring pronunciation, and managing sociolinguistic nuances—all under the pressure of immediate interaction.
