Abstract

This study examines gender representation in contemporary children's graphic novels through a comparative analysis of selected works published in recent years. The research investigates how male and female characters are portrayed in terms of roles, personality traits, leadership, emotional expression, and social interactions. Using qualitative content analysis and a multimodal approach, the study explores both textual and visual elements that contribute to the construction of gender identities. The findings reveal that while many contemporary graphic novels promote gender equality and challenge traditional stereotypes, some continue to reinforce conventional gender norms through character design and narrative structure. The study highlights the educational value of children's graphic novels in fostering inclusive attitudes, critical thinking, and gender awareness among young readers. These findings provide valuable insights for educators, parents, authors, and publishers seeking to promote diversity and equality in children's literature.
