Abstract

The upper jaw diastema (UJD) is a common aesthetic problem among people seeking orthodontic treatment, which means a distance of more than 0.5 mm between the lateral surfaces of the central incisors of the upper jaw. The causes of UJD may be as follows: high attachment of the frenulum; microdontia; macrognathia; supernumerary teeth; absence of lateral incisors; cysts on the midline, and unhealthy oral habits.
